Designed and implemented autonomous drone search and rescue system. Used OpenCV to detect markers and boundaries, and to filter out unneeded information and noise. Used Robot Operating System framework and Gazebo simulator to test functionality before use with real drone. Implemented emergency shutdown in compliance with drone flight laws.
Studied practices of good software design including agile approaches and SOLID principles. Implemented AI algorithms including neural networks, genetic algorithms, pathfinding and data mining. Learnt about functional and concurrent programming. Studied SQL and NoSQL database design. Implemented protections against SQL and HTML injection.
Studied Human-Computer Interaction, Law and Ethics. Learnt about good interface design, communication and analysis, linked with human psychology and culture. Analysed past failures of computer systems and debated current and future laws. Discussed ethical concerns and responsibilities of computing professionals, including criminal liability and professional accreditation.
Received award for most extra-curricular classes attended during my degree. Asked to write a blog post about my experiences. Classes covered environmentalism, philosophy, business start-up, historical pilgrimage, science and politics.
